We need your feedback, Burgers!
We are currently testing out a voting system for the new Cheezburger. As we evaluate the results, we’d like to hear what makes you happy when it comes to casting your vote.
This new voting system that has launched on the beta allows you to score the content by clicking a “thumbs down” or a “thumbs up” button. We are trying this system because the majority of “burgers” that were clicked on the old voting system was either 1 burger or 5 burgers–which translates to thumbs down or thumbs up. Let us know what you think!
We haven’t implemented a more in depth and permanent voting method yet because we want to make sure it’s a feature that you will use, and most importantly one that will make you happy.
We’d love to hear what you think! What is important to you when it comes to voting? What information do you like to see as a result of voting? Please feel free to post a comment here or email us directly at contactus@cheezburger.com.
Sincerely,
Emily, Will and Heather (Tofu, dollydally81 and poppylady)

I like the 1-5 burger system best – While most votes are either 1 or 5 burgers, I’ve seen enough posts that are almost good, but did something poorly (like grammar that creates a major ambiguity) that makes it worthy of a 4-burger rating, or an almost entirely crappy post that did enough things right to deserve a 2-burger rating. Also, the colored burger/grayscale burger coloring indicated more quickly what others thought about it than doing math to see how well it was received. This is useful, because if you don’t get the joke to a well-liked meme, someone in the comments can explain it for you.
Consider the following situation: inexplicably, some stupid “meme” makes it to the front page. Nevermind how it got there. Once a meme falls below some type of quality threshhold, it should be removed from the main page. It’s not necessary to completely delete this content; it simply should be removed from the front page.
Simple.
I think the thumbs up and thumbs down way is better than the old voting system.
I’m undecided on the thumbs up/down thing vs. 1-5 cheezeburgers/hot dogs. The new system is simpler, but does leave out the shades of gray.
Also, vote totals are important. Don’t forget them when you’re finished.
Voting feels, to me, like farting in the wind. Nice to vote. But isn’t the point of voting to influence which LOLz make the FP? I don’t actually see that happen. If that is not the purpose, then what is? If I can discourage the mean and or cruel posts by voting awful or not at all, that would be useful, but that doesn’t seem to happen either.
My philosophy is that humor is too subjective for me to make a judgment call on what is good or bad and or what degree of burger it is or what constitutes the “bad” threshhold. I like the thumbs up and thumbs down system mysef. If I do not care for the humor I have simply never voted for it. If not very many peeps voted for an LOL that is a good indication that the humor did not have broad appeal. These are real people making LOLs and giving it their best shot and I see no need to give someone a thumbs down simply because I didn’t personally care for it.
I usually voted with 4 burgers or 5 burgers and rarely gave anything 1 unless I thought it was in very bad taste. The ones I liked got 4 burgers and the ones I liked a lot got 5.
Aside from the ones I found offensive, I would abstain from “voting down” what others had created as it seems unnecessary to be critical. ie, if they were very funny then they would get the good votes.
Can you make a change to always show the totals with the thumbs (like in Youtube, for example) without having to vote up or down as you do at the moment?
At the moment it is more like a poll where you reveal the answer after someone votes but I don’t think that is necessary.
BTW, I tested the thumbs on one of my own lols which was shown as 0 Down and 2 Up … after I voted it up. So I voted it down and the Up total went back to 1 but now I have a Down total of 1 as well. A strange result just to be able to see the numbers.
Good luck, PB
I prefer the 1-5 system as many of entries are ambiguous, the image is cool but the caption does not ace or vice versa.
A total vote counter is a must to tell you and the entry owner how many liked or disliked that post. Please make sure to calculate Favorite and clicks on external shares as a Yay! vote.
On the user profile it would be nice to be able to sort or view “My Lolz” according to the vote count.
I really miss voting. Sometimes I just want the world to know how crappy an image is.
I like the 1-5 system best, since it gives a better visualization of how others like it. If you do the thumbs up/down, you’ll have to put in the youtube lightsaber like bar.
The 1 to 5 system seems best. Allows more of an average to be calculated.
